    How can I translate the English content “By Post” and “By Page” next to the search field within the front main slider?

    Thank you for your help.

    Hello @sschirm,

    The theme is already translation ready and can be translated to any language .

    In your theme file you can find the .pot file in expedition-pro > languages . Using this file you can translate to any language you want.

    For this you can use any gettext editor software like :

    https://poedit.net/

    Now you can choose Create new translation and it will create the file in the theme making your theme translation ready.

    After creation of the required .mo and .po file from the pot file, you can use it to use the theme in the translated language by switching your language from WordPress Dashboard > Setting > General .

    Hope this Helps,

    Best regards !!

    Have a good day .

    Hello Wensolutions,

    the filter for search results “By Post” and “By Page” are not part of the English source code. I have tried it with Poedit and also with a translation plugin but without success.

    Any other idea?

    Thank you for your help.

    Kind regards,
    Susanne

    Hello @sschirm,

    Both the “By Page” and “By Post” strings in the theme are translation ready and can be translated to your desired language.

    However, it seems like the .pot file included in the theme are missing strings in the file.

    we will be updating the pot file with theme update.

    As a quick fix, we have updated the strings and created .po file that can be updated in the theme’s languages directory and used with poedit to translate the strings here : https://ufile.io/jqna2

    Hope this Helps,

    Best Regards !!

    Good Morning from Germany,

    I really appreciate all your help, wensolutions. As I am also not familiar with .po and mo. files can you please provide a little step by step guide? I downloaded your files provided with the URL in your last message. Then I uploaded it in the child theme directory. Do I also have to copy the .pot file from the expedition pro directory into the child theme directory? And what else do I have to do in the wordpress backend?

    Thank you for your patience. 😉

    Kind regards,
    Susanne

    Hello @sschirm,

    The .po file that we had provided contains the theme strings that can be used to give translation for the strings in your desired language.

    Below is the step by step instruction that might help you with the process :

    • Download Poedit
    • Launch poedit application
    • choose “Create a new translation” option in the application Screenshot : http://imgur.com/a/mMfXs
    • Browse for the provided .po file
    • Choose translation language Screenshot : http://imgur.com/a/uwfwG
    • Find strings to translate from the list and provide translation string in Translation Box. Screenshot : http://imgur.com/a/hZS2S
    • save the translation
    • copy the .po and .mo file generated by the software in your child theme’s languages folder
    • Finally, in your Admin Dashboard > Settings > General > language, make sure the desired language is chosen and save your settings.

      Hope this Helps,

      Best Regards !!

    Hi Wensolutions,

    Thank you for the step by step guide and the screenshots. It was easy to follow and I am grateful for your assistance, but it still doesn’t work. Do I also have to copy / paste the et_travel.pot file from the expedition pro language folder into my child theme language folder?

    One other question: do I have to copy/paste all the code from the functions.php file from the parent theme into the functions.php file of my child theme? Currently my child theme contains only the following code (+ the code you provided for the image display in news & articles section):

    <?php
    function my_theme_enqueue_styles() {

    $parent_style = ‘expedition-pro-style’;

    wp_enqueue_style( $parent_style, get_template_directory_uri() . ‘/style.css’ );
    wp_enqueue_style( ‘child-style’,
    get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . ‘/style.css’,
    array( $parent_style ),
    wp_get_theme()->get(‘Version’)
    );
    }
    add_action( ‘wp_enqueue_scripts’, ‘my_theme_enqueue_styles’ );

    It would be great if you could quickly double check if this is correct.

    Thanks again 🙂

    Hello @sschirm,

    Regarding the translation :

    No, you do not need to copy the previous .pot file in your child theme, however you will need to copy both the .pot and .mo files that is generated by poedit software to your languages folder in child theme after you have completed the translation.

    If you are still having issues regarding translation please wait for the theme update that will update the translation file and making the translation plugins translate the strings.

    Regarding the functions.php

    You do not need to copy the codes from functions.php file in your child theme’s functions. The parent theme’s functions will automatically be loaded after activating the child theme.

    Regarding the child theme’s code, the code is correctly loading the child and parent’s style files so it should work without any issues.

    Best Regards !!

    Hi Wensolutions,

    It is good to know that I did everything correctly. I will wait for the Expedition Pro theme update and then work with a translation plugin.

    One last question: after implementing your code for the image display in news & articles section there is an issue with the homepage on mobile devises: the primary menu is fixed and the footer sidebar area therefore not correctly displayed. Please find a screenshot under the link below:

    https://wetransfer.com/downloads/484c0da9734a4fbb51b429b40dba88d720170828064844/553ef8a66276d51d446fa64a7bbbbb9e20170828064844/fe2dba

    I don’t have that problem with the Expedition Pro theme, just with the child theme.

    Cheers,
    Susanne

    Hello @sschirm,

    While we have inspected the issue in the screenshot, the issue seems to have caused by the styles load priority of the child theme( the reason of issue only seen in child theme ) and not because of the code we have provided.

    To resolve the issue, please REMOVE this block of code that pulls child styles in your child theme’s functions.php file :

    function my_theme_enqueue_styles() {

    $parent_style = ‘expedition-pro-style’;

    wp_enqueue_style( $parent_style, get_template_directory_uri() . ‘/style.css’ );
    wp_enqueue_style( ‘child-style’,
    get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . ‘/style.css’,
    array( $parent_style ),
    wp_get_theme()->get(‘Version’)
    );
    }
    add_action( ‘wp_enqueue_scripts’, ‘my_theme_enqueue_styles’ );

    AND REPLACE THE CODE WITH THE CODE BELOW :

    /**
     *Recommended way to include parent theme styles.
     *(Please see http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes#How_to_Create_a_Child_Theme)
     */

    add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'expedition_pro_child_style', 999 );
      function expedition_pro_child_style() {
    	wp_enqueue_style( 'parent-style', get_template_directory_uri() . '/style.css' );
    }

    This should fix the issue.

    Please let us know further if you need any assistance further.

    Hope this Helps,

    Best Regards !!
