Regarding your query, you can add the slider following the path Admin Panel > Appearance > Customize > Featured Section > Slider Type and which will display the slider on the front page below the menu as shown in the screenshot below.

Regarding your query, you have to create a new post and assign a category to the posts. Then you select the number of slides from the featured type which will make the sliders display the posts you assign in the category. The post’s featured image will appear in the slider.
