In order to update my theme I have had to pay an additional fee which I did (I wasn’t aware this was an annual fee). However on the WP site when I try to activate licence it says: Site is inactive. I have tried several times, can you please advise so I can update the theme?

I just realized that I am using a child theme, could that be the issue and if so, how do I have the activated theme applied to the child theme?

Regarding your query, the license you obtain is a single site subscription. It can be connected to only one site at a time. If you have activated your license key more than one website (e.g. localhost or staging site or child theme site) then you will see Invalid License error. You cannot use the same license on your second website without deactivating it first on the previous setup.
