You do not need to crate the child theme . Theme is already translation ready so you need to simply follow below steps :
At first create the “languages” folder in the location, themes > mediclean.
Create the .pot file using the software like Eazy Po .
Place the .pot file inside the languages folder you have created .
Using this file you can translate to any language you want.For this you can use any get text editor software like :
You can download the software where you can see many option for the translation.
Now you can choose Create new translation and then select the language of your choice .
Here you can begin to translate the string of you choice and save it. Now it will create .mo and .po file in the theme languages folder.Also please go to Dashboard -> Settings -> General and on the bottom you can see Site Language option change it to your language.

As far as we have checked this theme locally and it works all fine .
However the slider functionality is not checked with any third party plugins.
So, if you have installed any third party plugins then please try disabling them one by one and check you site if the issue is fixed. If the issue is fixed you will know the exact plugin that have created the issue.

Theme has by default set Primary Menu location as the primary and the header menu location as secondary .
So if you only want the header menu appear in the responsive view you have to activate the child theme.

As far as we have checked the theme locally it is working absolutely fine as you can see in below screen shot:

If you have then please do not make the modification directly in your original theme as the original modification will be lost .
For the fix you need to activate the child theme . After activating the child theme in your child themes functions.php file paste below given code .

As we have inspected your site URL we found that you have assigned the menu in the Header Menu location . The Header Menu is designed in such way. There is no any issue in the design .
But if you want them to appear just above the content you have to assign the menu to Primary Menu location By going to Admin Panel > Appearance > Customize > Menus > Menu Location.

1. How to adjust the gap width? For example, for the gap between menu and carousel, I thought it is too wide, maybe it is 20px, but I only want 10 px, also for other gap, where should I adjust it?
To reduce the gap between the menu and carousel use below given CSS .

To translate the string follow below given steps.
1. Poedit is a common program which you can use to translate the theme. It’s available for free on poedit.net.
2. After you have installed Poedit, you can open it and select File > New Catalog from POT file. Then select the .pot file from the theme you wish to translate which you can find in the /languages/ folder of your theme.
3. A properties box will open up where you must enter some general information. First up, in the Language field enter the language name you want to translate.
For instance, if you’re going to translate a GavickPro WordPress theme into Spanish you’ll name your file “es_ES.po”,
4. Then go through every line of text and translate it to your native language. Afterwards you can save the catalog with your language code (for example es_ES.po). Normally Poedit automatically creates the .mo file and saves it, too.

Upon inspecting your site we found that you have not used the university hub pro theme .
For your information university hub pro theme is coded by following the WordPress coding standard . Also it is very unlikely that the speed is caused due to the theme . The problem may have caused due to the server or any other factor.
So please once activate the university hub pro theme in your site and provide your website URL so that we could look further into the issue .

You issue has been answered in the points below:
1. Is there a way to add a custom description to the sliders? Instead of pulling 30 or so words from the page, can we choose to add our own custom description above the LEARN MORE button.
To add the custom description you can add the description in the excerpt field create and activate the child theme . You can also create the child theme using plugin . Below in the link to one of them.

To add replace the button with the image us below given CSS in the location Admin Panel > Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS.

The slider section has the option to display the post from the category. You can add the events by creating the individual post and assigned them to the category and chose the category to display in the slider by going to Admin Panel > Appearance > Customize > Home/Front main Slider .
